OHANEZE NDIGBO President General election; Obiozor still our only choice—Iwuanyanwu

*Amb. George Obiozor

By Fred Iwenjora

Igbo elder and member Board of trustees of PDP Chief Emmanuel Iwaunyanwu has reiterated his support and endorsement for the candidacy of Ambassador George Obiozor as the next President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo.

Speaking yesterday in Owerri, Chief Iwuanyanwu said that Obiozor’s towering credential is the reason for this endorsement by Imo people.

According to Chief Iwuanyanwu  “Obiozor is an erudite and respected scholar and diplomat of international repute whose experience will do much good to ohaneze Ndigbo when the tenure of Chief Nnia Nwodo expires in January 2021.

He said “Obiozor is not my choice alone. He was chosen in consultation with all Imo stakeholders including town unions, religious bodies etc with representatives from all the zones of Ohaneze. And Ohaneze chapters across Igbo land and other state are comfortable with that choice. I cannot say why there is noise about this choice. I believe the noise is only in some social media circles. We had over 20 interested contestants from which we pruned down to the best candidate. At the presentation of Obiozor, it was unanimous acceptance.

“You see Ndigbo have problems all over the world and only a man like a diplomat in the mold of Ambassador Obiozor who has been Nigeria Ambassador to the United states, Isreal, Cyprus and other countries  the world over can help negotiate peaceful resolutions for the benefit of Ndigbo world wide. He will not joke with Igbo interests because he understands the dynamics of Nigerian politics and when he emerged as consensus candidate, all the stakeholder states became settled and happy”.

“The position of Ohaneze President General is not a political position and does not require a politician who may tilt to party loyalty”.
