NIGERIA TO FEATURE IN ODWIRA, GHANA’S CELEBRATED CULTURAL FESTIVAL

With the special invitation extended to the Nigerian community in Ghana via a visit by a delegation led by King Nana Osuodumgya, Otutu Ababio V and Queen mother Owoabrengpong Abena Koroma 1 to  Eze Ndigbo of Ghana, Eze (Dr,)Ambassador Chukwudi Ihenetu, indications are that Nigeria will feature prominently in the one week event.

Odwira festival one of Ghana’s biggest cultural festivals takes place in Adukrom, on the eastern region of the former Gold Coast.

According to the King who spoke to ECD at the palace of Eze Ndigbo Ghana situated in the Legon area of Accra, “we have much regard for the Nigerian community in Ghana and have high respect for HRM Ambassador Ihenetu. It is the reason we came all the way to extend this special invitation to him and his family as well as to his numerous subjects.

King Nana also said that the festival which usually attracts Ghanaians from both within and in the diaspora  begins from 31st December 2018 and will end on the 6th of January 2019.

In his own welcome remarks , Eze Ihenetu, Eze Ohazurume  flanked by high chiefs in his cabinet namely Chief Mba Kalu, Chief Jonson Chigbata and Chief Douglas Chukwuemeka Davis  was full of gratitude and excitement on the honor done him, Ndi Igbo and Nigeria in general by the King of Adukrom.

He recalled the efforts by his person and cabinet to see that Nigerians in general and Ndigbo in particular get their pride of place in Ghana.

ECD also noted that a few days earlier, Eze Ihenetu was at Ho, a vibrant community in the Volta Region to celebrate an Igbo cultural event with Ezeudo of the area and his subjects.

One of the members of the Adukrom delegation, a journalist Annor Dennis said “the seven days of Odwira is the best time to be in Ghana. Come one come all”

In the same vein, Nigerian born film maker, tourism and media consultant based in Ghana, Rev Tony Whyte Meribe described the relationship between Ghana and Nigeria as “very tight”\
