As the funeral plans of one of the most popular and respected Eze Ndigbo na Uzo Ije (diaspora) in Lagos, Late Eze Martins Okoro gathers momentum, tributes have not stopped coming in his favor.

Eze Okoro was until his death after a brief illness, Eze Ndigbo 2 and Otun Bobaselu of Ejigbo and a major driving force of Ndieze Ndigbo in diaspora.

The latest in the rain of tributes comes from Chief Jackson Chinedum Ndudim, Soludero of Ejigbo and member of council of chiefs at Oba of Ejigbo palace who described Eze Okoro as a man of peace whose milk of human kindness Ndigbo in Ejigbo still needs.

Chief Ndudim who is also Nwachinawarauzo of Isingwu Umuahia Abia state described Eze Okoro as a brother who unified Igbos in Ejigbo.

Late Eze Martins Okoro with Soludero Jackson Ndudim during their last meeting
He said “ I got closer to Eze Okoro when I was installed as Soludero of Ejigbo and in that regard, got closer to the Igbo speaking community in Lagos. I found out about his fame and recognition in the history of Igbos in Ejigbo and his name kept popping up. After my installations I sought to know him and all the Igbo Chiefs in Ejigbo better so we can rally Igbos along better.  I suggested that the new palace chiefs visit him.

Several other personal private contacts and visits and pleas convinced him to join in the unification of Ndigbo in Ejigbo under Obi Ndigbo”

Continuing, Ndudim explained that “Eze Okoro was a unifying factor among Ndigbo in Ejigbo because he sacrificed his palace for the sake of unity of Ndigbo and we formed a more formidable council of Igbo chiefs. He was installed the Otun Bobaselu of Ejigbo. And we became much closer and spoke on the phone regularly. This humility to me is unforgettable.

Speaking on his last meeting with Eze Okoro, Chief Ndudim said “It was at one of the regular Palace get- together held every Sunday at Oba Ejigbo palace. He was looking so frail and weak that I went to sit with him and ask him what was amiss. He told me that he was ill. It is a big pity that he did not survive that illness. May his soul rest in peace of the Lord.

"I urge all ndigbo in Ejigbo and beyond to join in giving a befitting burial to a man of peace. A wake is set at Ejigbo sports center (mini stadium) on 26th March 2020 while his burial is set for his home town in Orsu LGA of Imo state on 8th April, 2020.
