Rebellion could begin after knowing what is and is not obtainable, and becoming discontented about it. But stubbornness remains the major reason for many people going down the path of destruction. The Scriptures told us in the book of Proverbs 16:25 that, there is a way that seems right to a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. I pray for you to have grace to withdraw your steps from every way that seems right to you at the expense of God's leading for your life in Jesus'' name. To an obstinate man, saying no to God is always in advance of knowing what God's will for him is. He did not start refusing or rejecting things just when orders are given. Even when there are persuasions to do what is right, a stubborn man turns deaf ears, seeing nothing at stake, whether as reward for obedience or consequences of disobedience. This explained the words of the children of Israel in Jeremiah 44:16-17 when the prophet tried persuading them in the name of the Lord.
As for the word that you have spoken to us in the name of the Lord, we will not hearken to you. But we will certainly do whatsoever thing goes forth out of our own mouth…
The mouth speaks out of the abundance of what is in the heart. And it sets the whole course of the body in actions that are lined up with the expressed thoughts (James 3:1-10). It is in this regard that a stubborn man or woman lives up to whatever he or she had imagined in the heart to do and declared openly. Anyone who is stubborn shuns every persuasion and conviction of the word of God. So you will discover that such person is left to his own ways. He becomes too wise in his own eyes to the point of destroying himself (Ecclesiastes 7:16). The Spirit of God no longer rules and judges him in the way of God (Genesis 6:3). Then idolatry results because man is devotional being by making. He has a creational obligation to submit to something or someone, whether consciously or unconsciously. This natural tendency in man either makes him submits to God or get stubborn and so, initiate idolatry which is a lifestyle of seeking alternative outside God.
Idolatry is a blatant way of saying that you have no need for God and word in your life whether you know it too well that man is a devotional being or not. We express submission, either to God or the devils, with what we say, do and even think of all the time. It is easy to know who and what every man is bound to by his expression (Proverbs 6:2). Man, by making, must naturally devote and submit to something or someone. And he ends up serving whomever or whatever he submits to. So if not God, then it has to be the devil although the devil is no match for God. This is one truth which Apostle Paul opened us to in Romans 6:16, 19 that: know you not, that to whom you yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants you are to whom you obey…
…for as you have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity to iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness to holiness.
Disobedience is not a virtue. And at the same time, it is not a mistake. A mistake for a sinner may not be deliberate when he lacks the grace but his eyes will later open at the fullness of time. But then, you should know that disobedience is different from omission. It is rather a deliberate act, having every part of the soul in consent.
Disobedience is the starting point for idolatry and witchcraft as a fetish, secret art and act. It strengthens the holds of satan in people's affairs.
Bishop David O. Oyedepo often says that “a man remains in captivity, not because his captor is too strong for him to break loose from. It is because he fails to know what qualifies him in God for his liberty”. But how can a disobedience man ever know and even access what qualifies him for deliverance in God when he would not obey the word of God?
God has no tolerance for disobedience. Anyone who disobeys God has a common destiny with witches and idol worshippers. Disobedience is nothing to God but rebellion which is as grave as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness which is as the sin of iniquity and idolatry,
According to I Samuel 15:23. many religious of the world may justify seeking alternatives to their profession in the heat of trying situations but eh Christian faith is not on the same plane with them. Any Christian indulging in stubbornness and rebellion to the authority of God is fast settling for a life of multiple sorrows but he is as good as a witch and idol worshipper. Psalms 16:4 vividly confirmed that, their sorrows shall be multiplied that hasten after another God.
So this is a call to do away with disobedience which is always a bid to manipulate or maneuver God's firmness while God and His Word remain non-negotiable. But we are rest-assured that the strength of Israel will not lie nor repent: for He is not a man that He should repent (I Samuel 15:29).
The book of Hebrew 6:17, 18 even confirmed that wherein God, willing more abundantly to show to the heirs of promise the immutability of His counsel, confirmed it by an oath:
That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie…
In conclusion, to disobey God is reject God and institute wickedness. In return, you earn His rejection and have God in fierce contention with you in every respect. The prophet Samuel told King Saul that, Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, He also has rejected you from being King – I Samuel 15:23. David also warned that God is angry with the wicked every day – Psalms 7:11
This is not your portion in Jesus name! Nonetheless, know that god has zero tolerance for disobedience as man does leprosy. It is a “but” – a leprosy which destroys without remedy. To disobey God under whatever justification is to
